Dog Rescued From Sewer Drain Barely Had Strength to Keep from Drowning

When Animal Aid Unlimited arrived to rescue Phoenix, the road dog in India was taking her last breaths.

Animal Aid Unlimited

She had collapsed during a sewer, and albeit the water wasn't deep, she had no strength to stay from drowning.

Her snout was dipping into the water and she or he was in severe shock.

When our rescue team arrived they saw that she was only during a foot of water, but was actually within the process of drowning. Her nose dipped wearily into the water. Bubbles were emerging. If we had arrived even 5 minutes later, it’s possible she would have drowned.”

They didn’t know why until they lifted her out of the water and saw that her leg was completely shattered and necrotic.

Maybe she had been hit by a car, was confused, lay within the water during a desperate effort to prevent the bleeding or ease the pain.”

Back at the hospital, Phoenix was slipping into shock. Her pulse had weakened and she or he was suffering hypothermia from her submersion within the water. Although Phoenix’s life seemed like it had been over, rescuers set to figure to save lots of her.

“We feared we'd lose her. She urgently needed an amputation but was too weak to face up to surgery. So we spent several days stabilizing her–a balancing act between strengthening her, and holding the infection and pain cornered . Her operation happened 3 days later and now – it’s sort of a miracle…!”

After her surgery, Phoenix regained her energy and couldn’t stop smiling. She ought out staff for cuddles and wouldn’t stop wagging her tail.

Her recovery was outstanding!
