He was picked up by animal control and brought to a high-kill shelter, where he was placed on the concrete floor of the shelter's isolation wing, awaiting euthanasia. But luckily, his story didn't end there.
A Weimaraner was found roaming around an Arizona street on a 95-degree day. He had a huge , infected tumor that hung from his stomach that was so big he could hardly stand or walk.
He was found and picked up by local animal control officers and delivered to the county’s high-kill shelter, where he was placed on the concrete floor of the shelter’s isolation wing. this is often where dogs wait to be euthanized, thanks to illness or aggression.
But this pup’s grim fate would soon change. Thankfully, two kind shelter volunteers knew that they had to try to to something to assist this poor dog and contacted a dog rescue group.
There, he finally got the medical aid he needed. He received blood transfusions and an intravenous catheter before undergoing surgery to get rid of the 12-pound tumor. After he was treated at the hospital, he was transferred to a personal shelter to heal.
A week after Gilbert’s surgery, he was declared one hundred pc cancer-free!
His legs were now weak since he wasn’t wont to having the ability to steer normally, but with help from his foster dad, he was running just like the wind.
Gilbert and his foster dad developed such an in depth bond that his dad knew he couldn’t give him up. He decided to adopt Gilbert and make him a permanent member of their family!
Gilbert finally got the happy ending he deserved. Watch his journey within the video below:
