In an update to the story, NBC Bay Area says a lady came forward to say the dog who was found with “Free” written on her fur in black marker. they assert she had the medical records, pictures, and witness testimony to point out she’s truth owner of the dog. the lady said she has no idea how her dog escaped and ended up 60 miles faraway from home. Police are confident she had nothing to try to to with the abandonment or writing on the fur.

The dog was found tied to a tree with the words “Free” and “I need an honest home” on her fur in black marker. it had been Shannon Bettencourt who found the dog in Benicia, California.
“The very first thing i assumed was to call the police on the other hand i used to be like no, they’re getting to call animal control,” Bettencourt said. “I didn’t know what could happen from there. i used to be like no way, I’ll a minimum of keep her for the night.”

Shannon fell crazy with the dog and wanted to stay her, on the other hand the news broke about the first owner coming forward to say the dog.
Either way, it appears to be a cheerful ending for a dog who suffered a sickening act of cruelty. We may never know who was ultimately liable for the mistreatment.
